A messy house stresses me out, but I also hate spending all day cleaning. I swear some days it seems like all I do is clean, cook, fold laundry, and clean some more. I created a deep cleaning schedule that works great for me. It helps me to stay on top of all the cleaning without getting stressed out about it.
It can be hard to keep up with all the deep cleaning that needs to be done on top of the day-to-day cleaning and household management.
This schedule helps me to stay organize and makes sure I go through each room at least once a year. I have a daily/weekly cleaning schedule to stay on top of the day-to-day stuff, but if I don’t follow this deep cleaning schedule, it is too easy for me to put it off and then never get to it. Here is my post for a daily/weekly schedule for how to keep your house clean with kids.
In the summer, I like to spend as much time outside as possible. So I try to keep the cleaning I do in the summer a little lighter.
This list is not necessarily in order of how I do the cleaning each month, but just a checklist for everything I do in each room.
I like to have a “room of the month” and work on that room for the whole month. If I finish early, I either go back to a room that I might not have finished everything in, take a break for the rest of the month, or get a head start on the next month… it really depends on how I am feeling.

Here is the yearly deep cleaning schedule:
- January- Kitchen-
- Go through each cupboard (reorganizing, throwing away stuff we don’t need/use/expired, wiping each cupboard outside and inside, etc)
- Scrub the floor on my hands and knees- then I can get in all the nooks and crannies
- Cleaning and organizing the fridge and freezer
- Cleaning the oven
- Deep clean the dishwasher.
- Clean light fixtures
- Wipe down the tops of cabinets
- Wash windows (just the inside this time of year. I wait until spring to do the outsides of the windows)
- Clean any cobwebs out of corners and off the ceiling
- February- Dining Room-
- Wipe down tables and chairs
- Clean light fixtures
- Clean vents
- Clean windows
- This room is a little less time-consuming than the kitchen. So, if I don’t finish all the kitchen I resume cleaning the kitchen once the dining room is done.
- Clean any cobwebs out of corners and off the ceiling
- Scrub the floor on my hands and knees- our floors usually stay fairly clean. I bought this mop 2 years ago and I use it 1-2x a week on the floor. I was a little nervous buying this because I was worried it wouldn’t hold up… and I was nervous about spending that much money on a mop, but it has been excellent so far. It cleans the floor well, doesn’t leave streaks, is easy to use, and dries quickly.
- March- Main level living room-

- Carpet clean- Click here to see the carpet cleaner that I use. I love this carpet cleaner and it’s worked great for years! We have a dog in the house and between the dog and the kids, I use the spot cleaner often!
- April- Entry Way-

This list seems really long when I look at it, but most of the individual items don’t take overly long when you just work on one thing at a time.
I try to break it up throughout the month and spend a little time working on it each week. It doesn’t seem like such a big job when it’s split up. I will occasionally (more so in the winter months) have my husband or another family member watch our kids while I work on these items for several hours.
I think the biggest thing to keeping your house clean, is to stay organized and work on things a little bit each week. It helps to keep things more manageable and can help to decrease stress.
Hopefully, this list helps you to get a good schedule for deep cleaning your home! What other things do you do when deep cleaning your home?
