The Perfect Homemade Granola Recipe

I used to hate yogurt, but over the last few years, it has grown on me. It’s a quick easy breakfast and Greek yogurt can be a healthy snack, breakfast, or dessert. I enjoy my yogurt with granola. I love the taste and texture that granola can add. After trying and altering many recipes, I finally found what I think is the perfect homemade granola recipe.

I have tried several kinds of store bought granola, but they never seem quite as good as the homemade stuff. Plus, it’s always nice to know what ingredients are in the foods you are eating. This granola recipe is so quick and easy!

My kids also love granola. I have “tricked” my kids into thinking they are getting dessert with some vanilla greek yogurt, fruit, and granola! It’s a total parenting win! Our strawberries are currently ripening. I took some very ripe strawberries, mashed them up, and put them on yogurt with this granola and the kids asked for a 3rd helping. It’s such a quick, easy, and healthy snack!

I usually keep a small container of granola on our counter and the rest I freeze in smaller containers. It freezes wonderfully! I hope you enjoy this recipe for the perfect homemade granola.

Ingredients:

3 1/2 cups old fashioned oats

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/3 cup butter or coconut oil (I have used both and they both work great)

1/3 cup honey

2 tbsp vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Line cookie sheet with tinfoil or parchment paper. Spray with non-stick spray.
  2. Melt butter or coconut oil (whichever you decide to use) in a medium microwave safe bowl. Place in microwave just until melted.
  3. While the butter is melting, combine oats, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon in a medium bowl and set aside.
  4. Once the butter has melted, add honey and vanilla to melted butter. Stir together and make sure all ingredients are well mixed together.
  5. Next, Add the butter mixture to the oats mixture and stir until all the oats are well coated.
  6. Spread coated oats onto cookie sheet.
  7. Place in oven for 16-17 minutes. Remove from oven, stir, and place back in oven for another 16-17 minutes.
  8. The granola is done when it is golden brown.
  9. Once it is done, remove from oven, stir, and then let it cool on cookie sheet.
  10. This can be kept on the counter or in the freezer.
