Farmhouse Style Bedroom Makeover On A Budget

When we first moved into our current house, there were several projects I needed to get to prior to working on our bedroom. So this project was on the back burner for several years. I finally was able to start working on updating our bedroom and I love how it has turned out so far!

I love farmhouse style decorations and I used that for my inspiration. We had a small budget for this project, but I was able to complete it for under $500. Here is how I completed our farmhouse style bedroom makeover on a budget.

I am a little embarrassed to show this picture, but here is what our bedroom looked like before… Looking back, I can’t believe it took me so long to do this! It was terrible… the wall color, the decorations, the carpet, and those end tables are terrible! But I tolerated it for several years.

Bedroom Before

Here is what the result is so far… I really like how it has turned out. Eventually, we plan to get rid of that awful green carpet and update the lighting, but we plan to do the whole upstairs at one time. So I have to save up more money for that project.

Bedroom After

Here is what I have done so far to complete a farmhouse style bedroom makeover on a budget and the cost of everything…

  1. New bedframe– We bought that at a local unclaimed freight store last fall. I really wanted a bed frame with lights. It also has a USB plugin for phones, which I love more than I thought I would. The bedframe cost us $350. We picked it up and assembled it ourselves to save some money.
  2. New bedspread and sheets– I bought the bedspread and sheets at Target for $50. This is the comforter I ordered.
  3. Painted the walls- I painted the walls using Benjamin Moore Silver Lake. I had a gallon of this paint left over from a rental house that we own that I painted last spring. So I didn’t spend any money on the paint. We have a fairly large bedroom and I used less than a gallon. I like to spend a little more money and get good quality paint. It seems to require fewer coats and is more durable.
  4. Refinished the end tables- The “end table” on the left is actually our laundry chute. I refinished the end table and laundry chute. I have another post that goes into detail about how I did that.
    • I refinished these end tables the same way that I did the end table in our living room. I had all of the paint and stain left from a previous small project. So I didn’t spend any money on that either.
  5. I did refinish the hardware on the end tables using Rustoleum Hammered Brown spray paint. I bought that at our local hardware store for about $12. So far it’s held up for a year.
    • I removed the hardware
    • Brought them outside and placed them on cardboard
    • Spray-painted the handles using the directions on the back of the can
    • Let them dry completely
    • Then, I put a 2nd coat on and let it dry for a full 24 hours.
    • Then I put a coat of Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel to help protect them.
    • I let them dry for a full 24 hours and then put them back on the end tables.
  6. I bought a couple of wall decorations (that you can’t see in the pictures) for about $50 total.

That’s all I have done so far to complete our farmhouse style bedroom makeover on a budget and I love the transformation! I actually enjoy being in that room now! And it was all under $500! I just still can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner.

Hopefully, this gives you some inspiration to complete that project that you have been putting off for too long!

I love to see transformations of rooms, especially budget-friendly projects! What projects have you completed recently?
